NAME GIVINGS
Name-giving ceremonies are not new — they’re almost as old as humanity itself. In ancient Roman times, for example, a son was not considered a legal member of the family until his father had him named in a special ceremony.
Today, these beautiful ceremonies are a joyful way to celebrate a new birth and to welcome a child into the world.
They strengthen family bonds and remind parents of the love and responsibilities that come with nurturing a new life.
A naming ceremony is also a wonderful opportunity for cultural and personal expression — a time to share joy, hope, and acceptance. Many couples choose to include the appointment of guardians, allowing their child the freedom to make their own choices about faith or beliefs in the future.
As a celebrant, I feel truly honoured to be invited to celebrate the arrival of a little one — especially when I’ve also had the joy of marrying the parents.
